Building Permit Process
Portage Township is in the process of implementing several improvement projects for the betterment of the community.

 Sewer Project

The Portage Area Sewer Authority is in the planning stages of a project that will provide public sewer service to the village of Puritan, Fiddlers Green, and Martindale.  The homes in this area need sewer service provided to ensure the health and safety of the public and the environment by eliminating illegal sewer discharges from failing on-lot systems.

In addition to the work planned in Portage township, the Sewer Authority is planning on replacing over half of their system in Ward 3 of Portage Borough.  The lines to be replaced in the Borough are well beyond their service life and are riddled with defects.  Upon completion of the proposed project, flow to the Authority's treatment plant will be reduced during wet weather which will help the plant run more efficiently.

The Sewer Authority is taking the steps to complete the planning required by funding agencies.  In addition to low interst loans, the Sewer Authority is applying for a grant through the DCED PENNWORKS program.

 Water Project

The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Portage is in the process of water system improvements:
Contract 2011-1:  Martindale Water Transmission Main
Contract 2011-2:  Spring Hill Distribution System
Contract 2011-3 Spring Hill Water Storage Tank
Work on the above 3 three contracts is about finished.  All water mains and services are installed along with the new tak (1 million gallon capacity).  The work that remains on these contracts consist mostly of restoration work (paving, concrete work, seeding and mulching).  With monies left over from these contracts along with grant money from BAMR the authority plans on installing/replacing waterlines in parts of the Jamestown Area and providing water service to residents along Twin Lakes Road and Sportsman Road.  This work is tentively slated to begin in July.
The Redevelopment Authority of Cambria County will administer the projects for which the authority received grant money.  The CDBG is for $500,000.00.  It will be used for various public water system improvements throughout Portage Borough and Portage Township.  The tentative schedule for this work is as follows:
